About this PROJECT

The Town Musicians of Bremen   The year 2012 is the 200th anniversary of the first publication of Children's and Household Tales by the Grimm brothers.  Coincidentally, it is also the 100th anniversary of Kitchener’s cityhood, when our fair city was known as Berlin.  The tale of the four prospective musicians making the journey to Bremen, a.k.a. Berlin, and along the way finding a home and purpose in their camaraderie is an interesting parallel that has been not entirely overlooked by the Chestnut Hall Camerata.

At the concert on March 4, you will have an opportunity to help support these four “musicians” of Berlin-- the Chestnut Hall Camerata with guests Gaedelica, Shadow Puppet Theatre and Ted Follows-- to create a unique webisode video story.

With a combination of live video and shadow puppet animation, we will tell the Grimm folk tale with our unique blend of Berlin talent.  The webisode will be available as on-demand video stream in the fall of 2012.

Your fan-funding will enable us to begin our storytelling with footage from the March 4 show's performance.

"There once was a donkey that had carried the grain sacks to the mill tirelessly for many long years. But his strength was failing and he was growing more and more unfit for work. So his master began to consider getting rid of him.

But the donkey, who became aware that his master had something evil in mind, ran away and set out on the road to Bremen. There he thought he could surely become a town musician.”
